Pres. Rodrigo Duterte recently declared general community quarantine (GCQ) on Metro Manila as well as six other areas in the country until November 30.
Batangas, Iloilo City, Bacolod City, Tacloban City, Iligan City and Lanao del Sur province are also placed under GCQ.
According to the nation’s chief, majority of the city mayors agreed upon extending the quarantine classification after observing the downtrend of Covid19 infections.
Previously, Metro Manila mayors mulled prolonging GCQ status until the end of the year. Palace spokesperson Harry Roque said the Inter-Agency Task Force had yet to approve this.
However, the Covid19 response body has qualms about further easing quarantine restrictions as it might cause an increase in coronavirus infections.
