Malay, Aklan – Mayor Frolibar Bautista has been reprimanded by authorities for his failure to monitor a recent Halloween party in a Boracay resort where strict Covid19 health protocols were allegedly flouted by many attendees.
“Napakapabaya talaga,” Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat was quoted in reports as saying as she blasted the “irresponsible” mass event at the Casa de Arte in Barangay Manoc-Manoc last Oct. 31.
She said she was supporting calls for its closure since they could not show any business permit as well as other required clearances to operate from the LGU.
Sec. Puyat said the Boracay Inter Agency Task Force is presently looking into allegations that the guests didn’t observe social distancing and weren’t wearing any masks as they boozed, danced and hugged each other throughout the night.
She said it is apparent that Mayor Bautista, who has jurisdiction over Boracay, had forgotten that the country is still under quarantine status due to Covid19.
“Dapat seryosohin naman ni mayor yung mga health protocols kasi mayroon pang Covid, para makapag-enjoy ang lahat ng tao,” she added.
Puyat clearly recalled Bautista had promised that drinking sessions and partying would be banned on the island when it reopened to tourists last October 1, after months of closure due to the pandemic.
Puyat said it would be a shame if Boracay, which has zero Covid cases up to now, will once again be placed in lockdown due to an outbreak as this will be costly in terms of lost jobs and livelihood.
