Marvin Hagler, 66

Republika

Former undisputed world middleweight champion Marvelous Marvin Hagler reportedly died “unexpectedly” at his New Hampshire recently.

He held the crown from 1980-1987, and was later inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame.

Ring Magazine, the boxing world’s bible, said Hagler’s finest hour came when he stopped fellow middleweight Thomas “Hitman” Hearns in 1985.

He was dethroned two years later by Sugar Ray Leonard over 12 rounds, but not after defending the title for 12 times.

Hagler retired from the ring in 1988, at the age of 34, utterly disgusted with the way his fight with Leonard was scored by the judges.

He lived in Italy for several years, where he pursued an acting career.
