The Department of Public Works and Highways last week opened a 136-bed quarantine facility, the largest in Metro Manila, in Barangay Nangka, Marikina City.
Thirty-seven container vans were converted into isolation rooms which were equipped with air-conditioning, beds and bathrooms, as well as rooms for doctors, healthcare personnel, medical equipment and nurses’ stations.
Currently, three isolation facilities are in the Amang Rodriguez Memorial Medical Center; one each in the Marikina Hotel, Marikina Convention Center and Marikina Sports Center; and one in a bunker. With the addition of this latest isolation center, there are now eight.
Marikina mayor Marcelino Teodoro said that the quarantine facility met health and safety standards and that after the pandemic is over, would be used for other purposes.
It is hoped that with its opening, the incidence of Covid19 cases would greatly be reduced.
