A MANILA Regional Trial Court lady judge was shot dead by her own chief clerk of court who then committed suicide by shooting himself right inside the judge’s chamber yesterday afternoon.

A report from the Manila Police District said the shooting incident took place at about 2:45 p.m. inside Branch 45 located at Room 535, 5th Floor of the Manila City Hall located on A. Villegas St., Ermita, Manila.

The Branch 45 presiding judge was identified as Ma. Theresa Abadilla, 44, who died while getting treatment for a gunshot wound in the face while the suspect, Atty. Amador Rebato, 42, died instantly when he shot himself in the right temple. The bullet exited in his left ear.

Initial investigation showed that the victim and the suspect were inside the judge’s office when the staff heard a gunshot.

The staff of secretary to the mayor Bernie Ang namely, Jerico Reyes, Peter Olalia, Lumba Lloyd and Aaron Alejandrino were passing by the area when they heard the commotion and inquired what was happening.

Seeing the wounded judge, the four immediately carried her down to the ground floor where a police ambulance was on standby. The MPD-SMaRT led by Maj. Jhun Ibay then rushed the victim to the Manila Medical Center at around 3:05 p.m.

The judge reportedly sustained two gunshot wounds, one in the head and another in the body and was still reportedly breathing when her staff checked on her. The lifeless suspect, on the other hand, was still seated face up on the chair in front of the judge when found, still wearing a face mask.

Before the incident, the two were said to have been heard arguing inside the victim’s office. The suspect, it was learned, had just recovered from COVID-19 and was slated to file his resignation. ANDI GARCIA
