BULUAN, Maguindanao – Thirteen persons were confirmed dead and seven others injured in a gunbattle last week in nearby Sultan Kudarat town between security forces and members of a band of suspected criminals.
Reports said police and military personnel had been ordered there to arrest ex-Barangay Limbo (Sultan Kudarat) chairman Pendatun Talusan and five of his men for frustrated murder, frustrated homicide and robbery w/murder.
The carnage started, according to reports, when the troops were fired upon as they were approaching Talusan’s heavily-fortified compound along the national highway.
P/Staff Sgt. Elenel Pido of the PNP Special Action Force was reported to have died in the bloody encounter, together with Talusan, a tribal chieftain, who was the main target of the operation.
Also killed were two local datus identified as Abdullah Kato Talusan and Bembi Talusan as well as nine of their followers.
