Republika

Local government units (LGUs) and regional offices near Taal volcano were told to prepare for the worst as the volcano showed signs of erupting at any given time of the day or in the days to come.

This was the warning aired by the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC) following the continued signs of activity of the volcano.

All residents of Volcano Island have been brought to evacuation centers in Barangays Tumaway and Aya in Talisay, Batangas, Talisay municipal disaster office said.

According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), about 91 volcanic quakes lasting one to five minutes were monitored in the past 24 hours.

Though the volcano has remained under Alert Level 1, Renato Solidum, Phivolcs director, said that in all likelihood, a phreatic eruption similar to what occurred on Jan. 13 last year is increasing, but within the perimeter of Volcano Island only.
