Tourism Sec. Bernadette Romulo-Puyat has reportedly ordered an investigation into the alleged ‘demeaning behavior’ towards an autistic child by certain personnel of a five-star beach resort in Lapu Lapu City recently.
Ms. Romulo said she has already consulted with the Department of Justice regarding the penalties that Plantation Bay may incur for its alleged discrimination against one of its guests who happened to be a “child with special needs.”
“After due notice and hearing, we will give the proper administrative sanctions (to Plantation Bay),” Puyat said.
The Autism Society Philippines chided Plantation Bay officials for the insensitivity displayed towards a person with a disability, in compliance with Republic Act 7277 (Magna Carta for Persons with Disability).
The ASP advised the concerned parents they may file a civil case or seek the aid of the Commission on Human Rights if the matter isn’t resolved to their satisfaction.
