Laoag mayor rebuked for X’mas party

Republika

The Department of Interior & Local Government (DILG) chided the Laoag City LGU for holding a Christmas party, which is disallowed by the national anti-Covid task force.

DILG Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya said a Show Cause Order has been issued against Laoag City Mayor Michael Keon for allegedly organizing the affair for the benefit of local officials in defiance of IATF existing guidelines.

Keon is the first cousin of Senator Imee Marcos and Bongbong Marcos, and nephew of former First Lady Imelda Marcos.

Malaya cited pictures of the merry-making which were posted on social media clearly showing people not observing social-distancing as well as other anti-Covid health protocols.

The IATF had banned all Christmas parties to prevent a surge in Covid cases during the holiday season.

Malaya said Mayor Keon should explain if he should be held administratively responsible for blatantly flouting IATF guidelines.
