The Department of Science and Technology reported recently that herbal drug Lagundi was found to speed up the recovery of mild Covid19 patients.
Secretary Fortunato de la Peña said that certain symptoms—such as loss of sense of smell—vanished earlier after treatment with Lagundi than they did in those that did not receive it.
He added that patients recovered after 7 to 8 days, based on negative results of their RT-PCR tests.
Lagundi, or Vitex negundo L., was traditionally used to treat insect and snake bites, ulcers, rheumatism, sore throat and coughs, among others. Should it be proven effective, de la Peña said that it should be used as it is cheaper and more accessible.
Since its outbreak, the country has recorded over 1.4 million cases, of which more than 25,000 have died.
