Sangguniang Kabataan president Renzo Matienzo was shot dead in view of family members in his own home in Lumban, Laguna last April 13. He was 26 years old.
According to the police, an unknown assailant wearing a bonnet entered the Lumban youth leader’s home on that Tuesday afternoon and shot Matienzo. Among his family who witnessed the shooting was his four-year-old son.
His family said that the shooter ordered them to lie face down and told them that his only target was Matienzo.
In an interview, a relative said that Matienzo had a clean record and was not known to be involved in any conflict, but suspected that the shooting was connected to his plans of running for town councilor.
The Lumban SK head is the latest murder in what administration critics called a “culture of impunity plaguing the country.”
Last March, Calbayog City mayor Ronaldo Aquino and two protection officers were ambushed and killed.
