Kuwait City – A Kuwaiti traffic police officer was reportedly meted a life term for raping a Filipina OFW, and then stabbing and leaving her for dead in the desert eight years ago.
After her horrific ordeal at the hands of the policeman, the victim managed to crawl to the roadside where a Good Samaritan found her and took her to a hospital.
The Kuwait Court of First Instance had initially sentenced the cop to death in June 2014, but his lawyer appealed the verdict which was commuted to life imprisonment.
The OFW, who comes from South Cotabato, was among 300 Filipinos who were repatriated last Nov. 29 aboard a chartered flight from Kuwait.
“This is my second life. I should have been dead in the desert but thank God, I’m alive,” she was quoted in reports as saying.
A Kuwaiti human rights lawyer, Sheika Fawzia Salem Al-Sabah, hads volunteered to act as pro bono counsel for the victim after learning of her plight in the local media.
