The Queen of All Media is a bride-to-be no more. Kris Aquino, host-actress-media personality, is longer engaged to former politician Mel Senen Sarmiento. She broke the news in a lengthy Instagram post on January 3.
Her post was simply captioned with “For once, hindi mahaba ang caption. Lahat po klaro, nasa carousel of artcards, pics, and screenshots na.” She also included the hashtags “#truth.” “#faith,” “#peaceofmind,” “#peaceinmyheart”.
This came merely weeks after the pair announced their engagement and pending nuptials. A week or so before that, netizens and reporters alike noticed that Aquino had deleted or archived all her previous Instagram posts with Sarmiento in them.
In her Instagram post which had multiple slides, she started with a statement that read in part: “I want to spare myself and my loved ones from further rumors and speculation.” She detailed her ongoing health battles, especially with an autoimmune disorder.
Then she wrote: “Sa pinagdadaanan ko ngayon, may tao bang gustong pagusapan pa ang kanyang paghihiwalay?” (With what I’m going through now, is there anyone who’d still want to talk about their breakup?”
It went on to say: “I will just post screenshots of Mel’s last message to me. After that you will never read or hear anything at all about him from me, because I still want to preserve whatever dignity I have left.”
The aforementioned screenshots showed Sarmiento talking about how the pandemic poses many issues to Kris’ health. He said that given his extroverted nature, he had “bubble fatigue” (the term used for being tired of quarantine restrictions and limited movement) and felt his penchant for going outside their home and bubble would put her at greater risk.
Given all that, Sarmiento said, he was accepting Aquino’s offer of “letting [him] go.” He ended by telling her that he does love her “but I guess this is goodbye.”
