Jesus: Mediator between man and God

The SHEPHERD | Danilo Q. Junco

There are various practices in the Christendom which are in contradiction themselves to the Word of God or the Bible.

These errors have not been corrected that even today are still practiced by the faithful or followers of the established church.

One of these is calling the closest beloved of the Lord Jesus either Mary or Peter or one of Christ’s disciples while praying in the hope that their prayers are answered by God.

In ancient times or during Moses’ time down to the time of Jesus, the practice of mediation in Israel has been through the priest as the Jewish people could not directly approach God but through this human channel.
This practice was totally and permanently abolished by the Lord Jesus through His death and resurrection.

When the Lord Jesus breathed His last on the cross, the veil in the temple was torn from top to bottom significantly so that each Jew or Christian can have direct access to God if they have personal relationship with Christ or if they are God’s disciples (Matthew 27:51).

In the first place, the people of God are also called priests but the High Priest is the Lord Jesus who has been interceding for His people more than 2000 years already there in Heaven (1 Peter 2:9).

The Bible is clear in saying in 1 Timothy 2:5 “that there is only one God and only one Mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.”

The Lord Jesus who is God-man is qualified only as a mediator between God and men and no other else even His earthly mother Mary or Peter or Paul, the renown leaders of the early church.

The Lord Jesus Himself teaches His disciples the right approach to God in prayer in Matthew 6:9-13 which is called “The Lord’s Prayer.”

God does not need anyone as an advocate or attorney in our modern time to prod Him to answer to our prayers as He knows all our needs and concerns even before we have prayed and He only answers our prayers if it is in accordance to His will (1 John5:14-15).

In two occasions the Lord Jesus admonished His earthly mother Mary for telling Him to perform miracles as the groom ran out of wine and when He was left in Jerusalem in the synagogue discussing with the Jewish religious leaders (John 2:1-11; Luke 2:43-49).

Mary herself acknowledges that she needs God as her Savior because she is a woman and as such, she is a sinner (Luke 1:46-47).

The Bible says that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God and the wages of sin is death but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus (Romans 3:23; 6:23).

Jesus is the only exception as He is sinless and has not committed any sins being a man and being God, He cannot commit sins as God is perfect, Holy and blameless (Philippians 2:5-11).

Jesus said He is the only Way, the only Life and the only Truth and No One can come to God the Father except through Him (John 14:6).

In other words, Jesus is the only Way to God the Father and no one else that God the Father entertains but His only begotten Son not only because He is His Son but God Himself without beginning and end as He is eternal the same with Him and the Holy Spirit.

Thus, all prayers of His people should pass through Jesus Christ as God the Father has given Him all authority and power in heaven and on earth and appointed as King of God’s Kingdom to be established here on earth and as a Judge to judge the living and the dead, along with Satan, antichrist, false prophet, rebellious angels, and rebellious people.
