The SHEPHERD | Danilo Q. Junco
What is there in the blood of Jesus Christ that God is satisfied to forgive the sins of the just and the unjust or all the people of the world?
Tracing back to God’s creation the time when Adam and Eve committed sins and rebellions against God for obeying Satan, and they made fig leaves to cover their nakedness, God had to replace them with the skins of the animals and its bloods were symbolical to the blood of Jesus Christ which would later be gushed out from His body while being crucified on the Cross of Calvary in Jerusalem.
This symbolism unfolded as the time went by through the offering of Abel to God out from the flock which was accepted by God while Cain’s offering from the crops of land was rejected.
This practice went on through the time of Moses when God instructed Moses to offer one year old animals which include sheep, goat, bull and so forth with no defects or blemish as a sin offering of the individual Jew or as a nation through the mediation of the priest from Aaron and his descendants.
It required the priest to act as man’s representative to God during Moses dispensation as no Jew could directly go to God but through the priest bringing with his animal as offering and with his hands were laid on the head of the animal as his substitute for the punishment of his sins and the priest should kill the animal and its blood would be sprinkled at the bronze altar and at the tabernacle and all the internal organs and some of the meats except for some parts should be burned as a sweet smelling aroma to the Lord.
The rest of the meat would be the portion of the priest and once a year the High Priest should enter into the Holy of Holies where the Ark of the Covenant was placed, made of gopher wood embellished with gold which contained the manna, that contained Aaron’s rod that budded and the Ten Commandments.
The Ark of the Covenant represents the presence of God which was situated at the third compartment of the Tabernacle as it has the Outer Court, the Holy Place and the Holy of Holies.
On top of the cover was the mercy seat which the statues of the two cherubs placed on opposite side of each other at the mercy seat whose wings hovered on it and the High Priest should sprinkle the blood of the animals for his sins and the sins of the whole nation to atone for his sins and the sins of the nation Israel, this was called by the Jewish people, the “Day of Atonement or Yom Kippur.”
This was exactly what Jesus Christ did through His sinless and blameless blood He forgave the sins of those people who repented of their sins and received Him as their Lord and Savior.
The bloods of those animals offered to God through the mediation of the priests and High Priests would not remove or blot out the sins of the Jewish people and for those others who responded to the salvation of Christ but only through the blood of Jesus.
Even the blood of 7.5 billion people would be offered to God, God cannot accept them as the only requirement for Him that man would be declared righteous, justified, sanctified and glorified but only the blood of His begotten Son Jesus Christ.
Through Christ’s blood, man is redeemed out of the hands of Satan, all his sins are forgiven, and his sins are continually forgiven, he is justified and has never sinned, sanctified and set apart to God.
So, man is saved from damnation in hell by the grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ lest any man should boast.
Human priests are no longer needed as it was already fulfilled by the Lord Jesus as the High Priest and the believers are called priests as well who can directly approach God any time of the day without qualms.
This is exactly what it means to celebrate the death of Jesus Christ and His resurrection on the first week of April as in Jewish calendar March-April is Nisan or Abib where the Passover took place when God delivered the Jewish people from Pharoah of Egypt.
