MANILA Mayor Isko Moreno wants swift justice for the Manila policeman who was shot dead in a robbery-holdup incident in Binondo recently.
During the regular flag-raising ceremony, last Monday, Sept. 21, Moreno turned emotional as he called on members of the Manila Police District (MPD) to leave no stone unturned and capture the killers of PEMS Roel Candido, 53, of the MPD-Meisic Police Station 11 and residing in Tondo. MPD Director Gen. Rolly Miranda was present in the said ceremony.
“Itaob ninyo ang buong Maynila… ang buong bansa. Halughugin ninyo, bigyan n’yo ng hustisya ang pulis na kinarne lang ng mga kriminal,” Moreno said.
The mayor also cited an unwritten policy that ‘a policeman killer never grows old,’ adding: “I hope you all know how to read between the lines.”
“I want justice… swift justice. How I wish wala isa sa inyo doon. Patawarin nawa tayo ng Diyos,” Moreno said.
Asked later about what he said, Moreno pointed out that the incident involved apparently hardened criminals as the said policeman was shot mercilessly in broad daylight and that he was actually asking God to guide him in addressing such kinds of criminal elements.
Candido was killed while a lady jewelry store owner, her staff and driver were wounded when armed suspects held them up in Binondo over the weekend.
Meanwhile, Moreno said he had asked the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) to close the entrance of the walled area covering the “white sand” portion of the Manila Bay in view of the crowd surge over the weekend, which caused the removal of Station 5 Commander Lt. Col. Ariel Caramoan for failing to implement the health protocols, particularly social distancing. Joint Task Force COVID Shield head PLtGen. Guillermo Eleazar said he was thankful to PGen. Camilo Cascolan for making the move, saying Ermita police chief PLtCol. Ariel Caramoan should have planned and implemented “strict security and health safety measures” in the area. ANDI GARCIA
