Manila Mayor Isko Moreno has been temporarily sidelined after he found himself infected with the deadly Covid19.
The City Hall public information office confirmed Mayor Moreno had himself admitted to the Sta. Ana Hospital last week after experiencing symptoms, and subsequently tested positive for the virus.
The hospital chief said Moreno was coughing, had a cold and the usual aches, but other than that there was nothing serious. He had no fever.
Moreno is already fully vaccinated.
Sources in the Mayor’s Office said Moreno declined to name a caretaker Mayor as he intended to closely monitor all of the City’s activities from his sickbed.
He said that even if he has contracted Covid19, his governance of the city will continue without any disruption whatsoever.
Moreno said he will continue discharging his duties as city mayor, in fulfillment of his promise to Manilans that he will never leave their side no matter what happens, even as he thanked all those who expressed concern and offered prayers for his and Lacuna’s speedy recovery.
“We will continue to work. We made a commitment sa tao na hindi natin sila iiwan. Let us trust in God’s healing,” Moreno said.
Moreno said that he could not pinpoint how he got infected, as he continued his functions at full capacity amid the pandemic and despite the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ), during which he would sleep in his office at Manila City Hall.
