Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental – A prominent physician and her husband were killed after they were ambushed by unidentified men last week.
The victims, who were reportedly going home on their motorcycle, were declared dead on arrival at the Guihulngan District Hospital where they were rushed after being found sprawled on the highway in Bgy. Poblacion.
They were identified by police as Dr. Mary Rose Sancelan and husband Edwin Sancelan.
Police recovered fifteen .45 caliber bullet casings at the scene of the crime.
Dr. Sancelan, ironically, was the head of the local Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF).
As of this writing, the IATF still has to come out with a statement regarding the gruesome incident which claimed the life of one of its officials.
San Carlos Bishop Gerardo Alminaza condemned the killings, saying Dr. Sancelan was the apparent victim of red-tagging by the “enablers of systematic killings in this country.”
