IATF move to reopen cinemas deferred to next month

Republika

The Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases’ (IATF) decision to reopen cinemas was met with opposition from local government authorities and has been deferred to next month.

Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) general manager Jojo Garcia announced at the Laging Handa press briefing that the IATF’s move was rejected by numerous mayors.

Should the reopening be backed by the president however, Garcia said that the MMDA would develop appropriate guidelines to prevent the further spread of Covid19.

“Maybe, instead of 50% capacity, we would only allow 20% to 30% capacity,” Garcia added.

As of Feb. 22, the total case tally of Covid19 in the country stands at 563,456.
