Home testing pursued for travelers

Republika

Presidential adviser for entrepreneurship Joey Concepcion has proposed home testing for travelers from US and Canada in addition to axing the quarantine requirement for the fully vaccinated.

Concepcion said that North American travelers should get tested 48 hours prior to departure and once more after they arrive in the country. This may be done either at home or at a quarantine facility.

“A lot of our kababayans have been putting off their plans to go home and reunite with families this Christmas,” he said. “We want to help them save money, so we are proposing an easier approach, which is to test before departure and home quarantine upon arrival. They can just take the required RT-PCR tests at home.”

Previously, Concepcion had been in talks with flag carrier PAL in anticipation of an increase in testing demands.

He had also met with the Department of Foreign Affairs, Department of Tourism, OCTA Research experts and the Philippine ambassador to the US, Jose Manuel Romualdez to discuss the plight of travelers from North America.
