Back in 2012, Zamboanga’s hero dog Kabang gained international recognition after saving two children from a possibly fatal motorcycle crash. Despite having died in her sleep back in May, her remains held in a concrete box were only buried in late June. She is buried near the St. Francis of Assisi as her “fur parent” waits for the exact date of a ceremonial blessing and her monument’s inauguration at the site.
Dr. Anton Lim, Kabang’s then-veterinarian, posted on social media to share the update. In the same post, Dr. Lim shared that artist Kublai Millan created a solid aluminum statue of the hero dog. The monument weighs 400 kilograms.
Kabang was formally recognized as Zamboanga’s hero dog last June. This came through a unanimous resolution passed by the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Zamboanga City. Part of this resolution allotted part of the St. Francis of Assisi public park for her marker and park.
Zamboanguenio architects designed both memorial and park to honor the beloved hero dog.
