Gov’t urged to allow Pinoys home for X’mas

Republika

Entrepreneurial chief Joey Concepcion continued his calls on the government to abolish facility-based quarantines for fully vaccinated travelers from North America (the US and Canada) in a bid to get more overseas Filipinos home for the holidays and restore the airline industry.

Due to the decline of Covid19 cases in the country and the increasing vaccination rate, the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases should be open to relaxing restrictions.

Previously, Concepcion had said that the quarantine stay was among the main reasons why overseas Filipinos thought twice about flying home.

The adviser also earlier proposed home testing for travelers from North America upon arrival in addition to the RT-PCR test they must take prior to departure. They may do this at home or a quarantine facility.

National flag-carrier Philippine Airlines announced that virus positivity rates in North American travelers had been low. Meanwhile, independent think tank OCTA Research said that the National Capital Region had inoculated more than 85% of their target population while cases have plunged to about 600 per day.

Concepcion added that many businesses, especially micro-, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) were banking on holiday spending of visitors to shore up business and pay their employees their 13th month pay.
