Police have recovered about 10,000 kilos of giant clams locally known as “taklobo”, valued at P50 million in Bayawan City, Negros Oriental on Friday, Feb. 12.
Police arrested Ricardo de la Cruz for selling 1,000 kilos of clams valued at P5 million to a cop who posed as a buyer in Barangay Pagatban.
Gen. Debold Sinas, Philippine National Police chief, said that the arresting policemen are after Yan Hu Liang, a Taiwanese who reportedly is the owner of the clams.
“This accomplishment ensures the sustainable conservation and protection of fishery and that aquatic resources law is being implemented by local authorities,” Sinas said.
Seized also from De la Cruz was a .45-caliber pistol. He and Yan are facing charges for violation of Republic Act 8550 or the Fisheries Code.
A separate complaint was filed against De la Cruz for illegal possession of a firearm.
