Gen. Parlade slams Sen. Bong Go, blames him for nation’s ills

Republika

Retired Lt. General Antonio Parlade of the Philippine Army last week lashed out at his erstwhile ally, administration Senator Bong Go, as being one of the main sources of the country’s myriad problems.

Parlade made the mind-jolting statement immediately after filing his certificate of candidacy before the Commission on Elections on November 15.

Parlade, who is better known as the abrasive spokesman of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) which achieved some notoriety for red-tagging celebrities and activists as part of its mandate, is running for president (via substitution) under the obscure Katipunan ng Demokratikong Pilipino.

“I am sorry but isa siya, kasama siya sa mga problema ng bayan natin,” Parlade declared to mediamen, adding this is the main reason he wasn’t supporting Go.

Parlade continued his tirade against Go, who is also running for president in 2022 under the PDP-Laban party (Cusi wing), as the main man allegedly “controlling” the decisions of the President.

“Wala akong beef with Sen. Go. I just don’t like the way he does things including controlling the decisions of the President,” he was quoted in various published reports as saying.

Parlade’s tirades forced the President to issue a blanket denial to quellS the issue. Duterte stressed he isn’t being controlled by his longtime aide, but admitted he does consult Go occasionally.

“I need Bong (Go) but not all the time,” Duterte said during his weekly public address in Malacanang.

Parlade reportedly said that it is common knowledge among officers in the Armed Forces of the Philippines that Sen. Go was responsible for influencing many of the important decisions of Mr. Duterte.

But Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana was quick to put up a kind word for Go, calling Parlade’s outburst as unfounded.

“In all my years in the Cabinet, I have not known any instance when Go acted outside the wishes and decisions of the President,” he said.
