Telecommunication (telco) companies were recently called out by Sen. Win Gatchalian for continuing to deliver poor services to consumers.
Gatchalian spoke about how consumers were not getting proper services in exchange for fees paid, on top of a multitude of issues that telcos have not addressed.
“…The lackadaisical attitude in the face of the subscribers’ problems is appalling especially at this time when we are all aware of the necessity of internet services…” he said.
Among the most pressing concerns that telcos seem to ignore is customer service: slow and inefficient responses to customer complaints and problems, with feedback taking as long as several months despite flooded social media pages and helplines.
Last month, Valenzuela City Mayor Rex Gatchalian intervened and met with telcos over numerous constituent complaints regarding connectivity issues, going unanswered.
Sen. Gatchalian also remarked that although recent data shows that mobile internet speed in the Philippines has improved over the past year, tangible improvements in service are yet to be experienced.
The country currently has two major telcos: Philippine Long Distance Telephone (PLDT) and Globe Telecom. However, DITO Telecommunity is set to begin as a third telco this month.
