Real estate magnate (and former Senate president) Manny Villar is the country’s wealthiest individual in 2021 with a net worth of about $7.2 billion (or approx. P350 billion) according to Forbes.
Villar, who is the husband of Senator Cynthia Villar and father of DPWH Sec. Mark Villar, is the chairman of Vista Malls, one of the biggest mall operators in the country.
Behind Villar, in Forbes’ 35th annual listing, is ports and casino operator Enrique Razon ($5 billion); Philippine Airlines chairman Lucio Tan ($3.3 billion); Andrew Tan of Megaworld ($3 billion); SM malls’ Sy family (3 members with $2.7 billion each); Jollibee founder Tony Tancaktiong and Elizabeth Sy ($2.4 billion each); and San Miguel’s Ramon S. Ang ($2.2 billion).
In other parts of the world, Amazon’s Jeff Bezos topped the rich list with $177 billion; followed by Elon Musk of Tesla ($151 billion); Bernard Arnault of LVMH ($150 billion); Bill Gates ($124 billion); and Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg ($97 billion).
