Filipina wins P13M in Dubai lottery

Republika

Filipina mom Nina Elmina Sanchez, 32, last week won the jackpot of a raffle draw by foreign currency exchange company Al Ansari Exchange in the amount of DH1 million, after sending money to her father in the Philippines.

Initially, Sanchez thought she was getting pranked when she received the news from representatives of Al Ansari Exchange.

The money transfer company’s reward program holds a draw for customers wiring money back home, giving them an opportunity to win the jackpot, luxury cars and other prizes.

A single mother, Sanchez works as a hotel receptionist, earning around DH2,000 each month which she uses to support her 12-year-old son and her parents who live in the Philippines. She herself lives in Dubai with her sister and cousin.

Despite the big win, Sanchez plans to keep her job: “I am still going to my work because I don’t want to rush my decisions. No job is big or small. There’s a pandemic going on, and I think I should take my time and properly plan what I will do next.”

She added: “I’m not materialistic and I don’t plan on going shopping for myself. I’m determined to make my family’s life better.”

To this end, she has decided to place part of the money in savings to ensure her son’s education.
