San Antonio, TX—In the midst of the pandemic and ongoing protests across America, Filipino Americans commemorated the 122nd Philippine Independence Day last June 12. This year’s challenging times demand for a more creative, realistic, yet a safer way of celebrating this important part of Filipino history.
All over America, FilAm organizations came together in a virtual celebration via video posting and live streaming that gave Filipino Americans the opportunity to relive the unity that brings them together.
In Atlanta, GA, Atty. Anne Marie Logarta Chairperson of the 2020-21 Kalayaan Atlanta Committee says that “Especially now that people and communities feel isolated due to the global pandemic, there is an even more pressing need to connect with people and things that are familiar. It’s an opportunity for us to come together for fellowship and to strengthen our identity as Filipino Americans and to make Filipino Americans proud of our heritage.”
