About half of the Filipino population, approximately 50 million people, would have to be fully vaccinated before they can do away with face masks and face shields, said Dr. Ted Herbosa, National Task Force Against Covid19 (NTF) adviser.
It was not clear if 50 million is an official target determined by the NTF.
So far, only three million people have received their two jabs. However, Malacañang clarified that since the beginning of the national immunization drive, over 12 million vaccines have been administered. Of that figure, 9.4 million have received the first jab, while 3.09 million are fully jabbed.
In the meantime, Herbosa reminded the public to keep to the minimum health standards and measures such as hand washing and social distancing.
Despite delays in shipment, presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said that the country is set to receive 1.12 million AstraZeneca doses from Japan, 2.028 million doses from the COVAX Facility and another 170,000 Sputnik V doses purchased by the government.
