Two high-profile inmates of the national penitentiary in Muntinlupa died recently resulting from Covid19 complications.
Former Dinagat Islands Rep. Ruben Ecleo, prisons officials confirmed, succumbed to “cardiopulmonary arrest” following a bout with Covid19.
Ecleo, who had just recovered from a case of moderate Covid19, expired in the Bilibid prison infirmary.
Ecleo, son of Dinagat cult leader Ruben Sr. and his wife Glenda, was sentenced to life in prison in 2012 for killing his wife Alona in Cebu in 2002.
The other high-value prisoner who passed away in the penitentiary was convicted drug dealer Yu Yuk Lai who also died due to Covid-related causes.
Yu was arrested in a big casino along Roxas Blvd. in 1998 in an entrapment operation after delivering 3 kilos of shabu to an undercover agent for P2 million worth of gambling chips.
