Enchong Dee slapped with billion-peso cyberlibel suit

Republika

Congresswoman Claudine Bautista-Lim, representative for the Drivers United for Mass Progress and Equal Rights (DUMPER) is suing Kapamilya actor Enchong Dee P1 billion for cyberlibel, following what she described as “malicious” and “defamatory” statements in connection to her wedding photos several months ago.

In August, Bautista-Lim was castigated following leaked photos of her purportedly costly wedding in a luxury resort in Balesin, Quezon to businessman Jose French Lim.

Dee tweeted: “The money for commuters and drivers went to her wedding. Let’s not prolong this conversation and don’t say otherwise.” Later however, the actor backtracked and apologized publicly for his comment.

Bautista-Lim was not so quick to forgive. In stating that ‘the money for commuters and drivers went into her wedding’, the congresswoman said that Dee suggested that she had used the people’s money for her wedding.
She had asked the court to order Dee to pay P500,000,000 in moral damages and the same amount in exemplary damages, for a grand total of P1 billion in damages.

“The posts were meant[sic] nothing more than their malicious intentions of maligning my person, depicting me as a corrupt public official,” she said. She also dismissed his apology as a method of deflecting the criminal charge against him.

She added: “This does not do any good for him. It only bolstered and magnified his admission of guilt beyond reasonable doubt for his unprovoked and baseless libelous remarks.”

In the lawsuit, filed on August 23 in Davao Occidental, Dee and three other persons were named. In it, Bautista-Lim said: “They had the audacity to post something against me based only on hearsay. None of them were present at my wedding nor a[sic] privy to the expenses for my wedding. Yet they attacked me as if they have personal knowledge of the expense for my wedding.”
