Lt. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar has been named to head the 220,000-strong Philippine National Police (PNP).
He replaces incumbent chief Debold Sinas who retired from the service last May 8.
Interior Sec. Eduardo Ano, who supervises the PNP, welcomed Eleazar’s appointment as he is “very qualified for the job.”
Per a resolution of the National Police Commission, Ano said Eleazar’s ascendance to the pinnacle of the PNP was accepted by Malacanang based on seniority, merit, competence and reputation.
However, Eleazar will serve as PNP chief for only six months until November 13, 2021 when he reaches the mandatory retirement age of 56.
