Amid the continuous operations of community pantries across the country, President Rodrigo Duterte told organizers to ensure that minimum health and safety protocols are observed to avoid the spread of Covid19.
The warning followed the occurrence of rising infections in other countries, which, if left unchecked, may happen in the Philippines, Duterte said.
“While we have the best of intentions, we must ensure that these activities will not go out of control and become superspreader events,” he said.
Referring to foreign countries dealing with virus resurgence, he said: “Read first and you will learn [that] contamination is hard to control. It just keeps going back. They have the spike, then they can put it under control, then they go to a lockdown.”
The President also acknowledged the public’s collective desire to go out, but appealed to them to continue following protocols.
“I know that you want to go out…you want to travel. But please if you can do it some other time, do it some other time,” he said. “I hold everyone responsible for complying with the regulations.”
