President Duterte is inclined to fire top officials of the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) for incompetence in connection with the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) brouhaha at the NLEX.
To be specific, the President fumed about the TRB’s muff-up in permitting the cashless payment scheme’s implementation without conducting a dry-run to ensure that no glitches arise.
“One more fiasco and you’re gone.”
The other week, Valenzuela Mayor Rex Gatchalian was forced to suspended the business permit of tollway operator North Luzon Expressway Corp. (NLEX) over the monstrous traffic jams 24/7 inside the city created by the shoddy implementation of their RFID system which brought vehicles to a virtual standstill.
“Papalitan ko na lang lahat. Hindi ko matanggap yung incompetence. If you cannot perform what is expected of you, then the best you can do for decency’s sake (is to) resign, and do not wait to be fired,” he ranted during a televised address.
Seeing his boss on a tear, Transportation Sec. Arthur Tugade – who sits as the chairman of the embattled TRB – jumped the gun by motu propio apologizing for the faulty implementation of the RFID which was the source of untold traffic woes for millions of motorists throughout.
“Palpak,” he said.
Duterte then turned to and directed him to look for someone else to do the job as it appears the TRB isn’t up to it.
