Following a birthday party held at Camp Simeon Ola in Legazpi, Albay, a Philippine National Police (PNP) officer was left with only one functioning eye after being allegedly attacked by a higher ranking official who had gotten drunk during the festivities.
Col. Dulnoan Dinamling Jr., commander of the Regional Aviation Security Unit, has since been discharged from duty.
The colonel’s inebriated assault, meanwhile, resulted in M/Sgt. Ricky Brabante’s right eye now being completely unusable.
According to reports, Brabante had interrupted a conversation Dinamling was having with a few junior police officers.
Brabante urged the group to head indoors due to the rain and hadn’t noticed the soused Dinamling among the bunch.
Upon leaving them, Dinamling went after Brabante and proceeded to hit him with broken glass, leaving an eye injury that doctors could not mend.
PNP Chief Gen. Dionardo Carlos has since announced that a full-blown investigation into the assault has been ordered and that Dinamling would be receiving due punishment for his actions.
“Rank may have its privileges but it can never justify abuse of power and drunken misconduct. Col. Dinamling will have to face the consequences of his actions,” Carlos declared.
A special investigation task group was put together by Bicol PNP Chief Brig. Gen Jonnel Estomo to mete out an inquiry.
Additionally, Col. Clarence Gomeyac, Regional Mobile Force Battalion commander and the host of the party that took place prior to the incident, has also been relieved of duty.
PNP officials have also pledged full assistance to Brabante.
