Donaire wins WBC bantam belt

Republika

Nonito Donaire recently won the bantamweight championship of the World Boxing Council (WBC) via a fourth-round knock-out of Frenchman Nordine Oubaali at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.

At 38 years old, Donaire, who is also known as “The Filipino Flash,” became the oldest boxer to win the crown in the bantamweight division.

Previously, fellow Filipino Gerry Penalosa held the distinction when he won the WBO bantamweight crown in 2007, aged 35.

Donaire’s next target is Naoya Inoue who beat him 18 months ago in Japan via a unanimous decision.
