DOLE marks 88th year

Republika

In celebration of its 88th founding anniversary, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) not only reiterated its commitment to serving each and every Filipino worker but also lined up activities to pay it forward to the people and its own employees.

From humble beginnings, as a minuscule bureau once under the antiquated Department of Commerce and Police, it was on December 8, 1933, that Republic Act (RA) 4121 established the DOLE of current.

By constantly building upon previous practices in order to keep up with the ever-changing conditions and needs of the workforce, as well as ensuring that both local and overseas Filipino workers are granted the protections and rights they are entitled to, DOLE has been playing an integral role for over eight decades.

“Our government is committed to giving the assistance that our workers rightfully deserve. We cannot do this without the service and commitment of our employees at the Department,” declared Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III.

With the theme “Tuloy-tuloy na PagTUPAD sa serbisyong tapat,” the weeklong activities included hybrid job fairs, bazaars, a clean-up drive at Manila Bay, recognition of department retirees with over ten years of service, and free flu vaccination for DOLE employees.
