DOH insists on family bubble for X’mas

Despite the downtrend of Covid19 cases in the country, the health department still warns the public against big gatherings and parties for the upcoming Christmas season.

Instead, health undersecretary Rosario Vergeire advised families to remain within their bubbles for the holidays, while gatherings are ideally held “outside and not in crowded or closed spaces.”

“We now have vaccines so we hope that we ensure that those who will attend family gatherings are vaccinated,” she said. “The virus is still around so we cannot be complacent.”

She added: “Let’s maintain the safety protocols and get vaccinated against Covid19.”

According to the DOH, nearly 74 million vaccine doses have been administered as of Nov. 18, of which 40.9 million were first doses while 32.9 million were second doses. Healthcare workers have received 6,400 booster shots, while over 144,000 minors between 12 and 17 were jabbed.

“The target or the goal for this year is 54 million Filipinos will be fully vaccinated and over 17 million (in the) first quarter of 2022,” said DOH director for Knowledge Management and Information Technology, Eric Tayag at a forum. According to him, around 1.15 million doses are currently dispensed daily.
