A sports facility will be constructed in Barangay Don Martin Marundan, Mati City on a 12-hectare property with a total area of 119,940 square meters.
The groundbreaking was done in January last year and the sports complex would be the first of its kind in Davao Oriental.
According to the plan, the construction in its first phase will cover the road network, drainage, site preparation, and fencing. Its completion would take several years.
Upon completion, the facility will house a 29,000-sqm football field, track oval and stadium that has 10,000-person capacity and an 8,600-sqm athletics field. It will also feature an archery field, ball games area, an 8,600-sqm aquatics center as well as a 5,200-sqm athlete’s village, sports commission and training gym.
The site will also have a dormitory for athletes, administrative and reception buildings and parking and commercial spaces.
“More than just a sports center, [it] will also feature a forest park and playground, which complies with the green building design standards,” said Davao Oriental Gov. Nelson Dayanghirang.
The governor said that the edifice will make the province “a new hub for sporting events in the region and even in the country.”
