As Covid19 infections continue to rise in what experts refer to as a surge, possibly due to different virus strains now in the country, the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) called on the public again, to wear face masks even at home.
An unusual occurrence of “family clustering” Covid19 infections was observed by hospitals in Metro Manila, as well as the Philippine College of Emergency Medicine.
Thus, the DILG renewed its announcement regarding face mask use at home, that was first mentioned by DILG Secretary Eduardo Año, in August of 2020, as cases peaked.
In an online press briefing, DILG undersecretary and spokesperson Jonathan Malaya recalled that the directive was first mentioned last year and further stated that wearing face masks and even face shields at home would help prevent transmission among family members.
Malaya also talked about how officials would be unable to monitor compliance in homes and urged the public to be disciplined and vigilant in order to prevent the infection trend from rising even further.
