Paniqui, Tarlac – A policeman is facing double-murder charges following the fatal shooting of his neighbors during a heated argument.
Paniqui police chief Lt. Col. Noriel Rombaoa identified the suspect as P/S Sgt. Jonel Nuezca, 46, who is assigned at the PNP Crime Laboratory in Paranaque City.
“Pumunta ang pulis sa bahay ng biktima at nagkaroon ng pagtatalo. Naungkat ang matagal na nilang alitan sa right-of-way,” Rombaoa said.
The crime was vividly caught on videocam and shown to the world on social media.
Footage showed victims Sonya Gregorio, 52, and son Frank Anthony Gregorio, 25, being shot like horses by the suspect at pointblank range.
Rombaoa said Sgt. Nuezca fled for Urdaneta, Pangasinan after the shooting to hide, but had a change of heart and surrendered himself to the Paniqui police.
Under questioning, Nuezca claimed he regretted having shot the Gregorios.
An irked Senator Imee Marcos vowed to dig deeper into the case after being informed that Nuezca has a checkered background in the PNP, including two previous homicide cases for which he merely received a rap on the knuckles as punishment and was not dismissed from the service.
“He could be a regular hitman. The guy is clearly inured to shooting people like target practice. Sino ang mga padrino nito?”
Marcos said she wants Nuezca’s immediate superiors included in the investigation as well as the others who handled his past cases, in line with R.A. 8551 or the law meant to reform the PNP.
