The SHEPHERD | Danilo Q. Junco
I have said in my previous article that I should give more emphasis on the huge statue that appeared before King Nebuchadnezzar’s dream which God gave to Daniel in a vision and its interpretation to show the people of the world that the history of all nations is under His control.
This was recorded in Daniel 2 and he attributed it to King Nebuchadnezzar that God of Heaven, who places kings and removes them and His Kingdom reigns for eternity. Daniel never got an iota of credit for the revelation that God gave it to him in contrast with the spiritual counterfeits of Babylon belonging to the king’s think tank like the magicians, astrologers, sorcerers, and soothsayers who failed to explain the dream and its interpretation to King Nebuchadnezzar.
“Modern cultic movements are merging many of these spiritual counterfeits into a contemporary revival of occultism. The influence will continue to rise as a showdown between Jesus Christ and Satan in all manners of wisdom and understanding that the believers who seek to walk in the full life of the Holy Spirit will find as did the Hebrews that they are ten times better than those who pursue such practices,” an excerpt from the commentator of Daniel’s book.
The huge image was seen by Nebuchadnezzar through a dream: the head was made of gold, the chest and arms of silver, the belly of bronze, and thighs and feet were of partly iron and partly clay. The head is Babylon referring to Nebuchadnezzar; the chest and arms to Medo-Persia; the belly to Greece; and the thigh and feet to Rome.
The Roman Empire was divided into iron and clay, the iron would remain strong and the clay fragile.
God, however, destroyed all the four empires as prefiguring it to a huge statue only by a stone cut out from the mountain without human hands that struck the image from the feet to the head and was pulverized and its chaff was carried out by the wind without any trace. And the stone became a huge mountain and filled the whole earth.
To the immediate readers of Daniel’s time this could be referred to King Cyrus of Persia who invaded Babylon in 539 B.C. but the context stated that the stone became a great mountain that filled the whole earth could be interpreted to Jesus as the Messiah who would set up the Kingdom of God on earth and all the kingdoms will be under Him.
The dream was fulfilled centuries or even millennia later and it was so accurate that even the secular historians could not dispute it.
The Lord Jesus, who has been appointed by God to rule the universe, delegated His people here on earth to continue the works which He left and to taste and experience the victory when He defeated Satan and all his cohorts through His death and resurrection and ascension to His dwelling place in Heaven.
Jesus’ people are overcomers despite the aggression of Satan’s allies [as Satan knows that his time is short] through oppression, persecution and ultimately tribulation, they continue to share the gospel of salvation to reach out the lost and reign on earth through the preaching, and teaching of God’s word along with praising, worshiping God and doing good like casting out demons, healing the sick, and merciful acts to lift up the heavy loads of the people.
But the consummation of the age when Jesus Christ will come back and defeat all His enemies and avenge His people who died of martyrdom by His enemies and this will be described in the book of Revelation as terrible or fearsome. No nation or kingdom can escape from God as He has demonstrated it through the account in the book of Daniel.
This truth is a great comfort for Christians to continue to remain faithful to Jesus Christ despite all the odds in life and difficulties they have encountered by the ungodly or wicked rulers of the world.
