Cebu City – A practicing lawyer was shot and killed by two unidentified men while walking to his office building shortly after lunch in Barangay Kasambagan last week.
The victim was identified as Joey Luis Wee, 51, who suffered two gunshot wounds and expired on the operating table of a local hospital.
Wee’s death comes a week after Puerto Princesa City lawyer Eric Magcamit was killed in similar fashion while going to a court hearing in Quezon, Palawan.
And six weeks ago, fellow lawyer James Joseph Gupana was also ambushed by riding in-tandem gunmen in neighboring Lapu Lapu City, but luckily survived the slay try.
Wee handled several high-profile cases here, including acting as defense counsel for several ex-officials of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) who were charged with corruption in the controversial multi-million peso purchase of grossly-overpriced lampposts in Mandaue and Lapu Lapu cities for the 2007 ASEAN Summit.
