Cebu hospital sued for ‘wrongful’ deaths

Republika

Cebu City – The prominent Garcia clan is hauling Chong Hua Hospital to court over the suspicious deaths of two of its members due to Covid19 issues.

The deceased – identified as Barili town mayor Marlon Garcia and ex-Dumanjug town mayor Nelson Garcia – died within a week of each other after being taken to Chong Hua in early September 2020.

They were siblings of Cebu Gov. Gwen Garcia, Deputy Speaker Pablo John Garcia and former GSIS president Winston Garcia, who recently filed criminal charges against unnamed Chong Hua doctors for what they described was the botched treatment of their brothers resulting in their unexpected demise.

In a press conference, the Garcias accused Chong Hua management of allegedly “conducting fraudulent activities” at the expense of the two.
It was disclosed that the filing of charges is just the tip of a series of complaints the Garcias are planning against Chong Hua hospital which is reputedly the biggest and most modern in Cebu (at par with St. Luke’s Medical Center or Makati Medical Center).

In the wake of the twin tragedies, the Garcia family said they are also initiating a probe into the circumstances leading to the demise of Nelson and Marlon in the supposedly reliable hospital.

Chong Hua countered that the treatment administered to the Garcia brothers was based on globally-accepted clinical procedures.
