The unabated spike of coronavirus disease or Covid19 has forced the powerhouse cities of Cebu in Visayas and Davao in Mindanao to shut off borders of their respective areas.
Non-essential travels at 5 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 16, should be off-limits in Cebu City as ordered by city Mayor Edgardo Labella aimed not to return to enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) as the cases of the virus in the city are rising.
It can be recalled that in June 16 Cebu City reverted to ECQ as the city became the epicenter of the virus.
“We do not want to return to an enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) so we need to be more vigilant while the virus remains,” Labella said.
Officials of the city believed that they could control the virus but it turned out the plague continued to soar high as it posted 59 new infections on Saturday, Nov. 14 bringing to 262 the active cases in the city that alarmed them.
As a result, Mayor Labella has ordered that the borders of the city should be closed for those travelling for leisure and have no official business but for workers or authorized personnel outside residence (Apor) and those with legitimate concerns should be allowed to enter provided they had medical clearances from their respective governments.
The city would only allow the entry of workers with proper identification cards and certification of employment in the city, and residents of the vicinity who are working in towns and cities of Cebu province.
