Cagayan de Oro City – The son of an incumbent congressman here was shot and killed last week by an unidentified assailant inside their quarry site in Barangay Pagatpat.
Reports said the victim, Roland Uy, died on the spot when he was shot in the face by the motorcycle-riding gunman while resting in a lounging chair.
Sources claimed the incident could have been election-related as the victim’s father, 1st District Representative Rolando Uy, is allegedly the frontrunning candidate for mayor in next year’s elections.
It was disclosed that the victim was a kagawad in Barangay Carmen which has the largest voting population in Cagayan de Oro City, and where his mother is also the barangay captain.
Police investigators said they are not discounting the possibility the incident may have been the result of business rivalry as their quarry site in Barangay Pagatpat is a major source of gravel and sand for construction companies and realty developers.
