The Roman Catholic bishop who served for several decades at the diocese of Virac in Catanduanes and of Legazpi in Albay died of respiratory illness on Wednesday, Jan. 27.
Bishop Jose Crisologo Sorra, 91, passed away around midnight due to respiratory failure secondary to pulmonary embolism.
His wake was held at St. Gregory the Great Cathedral until Jan. 26 and asked for prayers for his eternal rest, said Bishop Jose Baylon of the Diocese of Legazpi.
Sorra was ordained as a priest for the diocese in 1956 and was appointed bishop of Virac in 1974. In 1993 he was named the fourth bishop of Legazpi until his retirement in 2005.
