Senator Christoper Lawrence “Bong” Go’s participation in the 2022 national elections has been storied thus far. From initially running for vice president, to running for president, he has come to the conclusion that he’s just going to drop out.
“The presidency is a matter of destiny,” he told the media.
Prior to dropping out, the standard-bearer of the Pederalismo ng Dugong Dakilang Samahan (PDDS) said that he was continuously seeking guidance from “Divine Providence” with regards to his decisions to run for office.
“If it is for you, it is really yours,” he’d said, adding that he did not want to burden President Duterte or their avid supporters.
A last-minute candidate for the presidency, he said that he never dreamt of the position but he was “willing to make the supreme sacrifice” after a decision by the President and the party.
One week after talking about seeking “a sign from God,” he finally made the decision to pull out of the race entirely.
In an ambush interview, he explained his family was not in favor of the run. Moreover, he did not want to put the President in a tough spot.
“I don’t want President Duterte to get stuck,” he said in Tagalog. “I love him more than a father.”
