The celebration of Valentine’s Day was traced to a Roman festival called “Lupercalia” which was held in mid-February as fertility rites and the pairing of women with men by lottery.
It was replaced by Pope Gelasius of Rome at the end of the 5th century with Saint Valentine’s Day and in the 14th century it came to be celebrated as a day of romance on Feb. 14 when lovers had expressed their affection with greetings and gifts.
To date, Valentine’s Day celebration is associated with promiscuity, pre-marital sex or adultery which is entirely contradicting to the original purpose of God in creating the first parents of humanity Adam and Eve, according to the Bible.
God’s purpose of creating Adam and Eve is for them to have a home, a family, to produce godly children and obey Him being His representatives here on earth.
But this was forfeited when they rebelled and sinned against God for obeying the voice of Satan instead of God’s command.
God has laid the steps to follow based on His Word the Bible with regard to love, courtship and marriage.
All these two stages of love and courtship prior to entering into a serious commitment which is marriage, the millennial believers should consult God in prayers as to whoever they want to be their partners in life.
God primarily commanded His people to only get married to have the same belief or faith with them, and have the same commitment and dedication to God and His Word.
To God, marriage is a covenant meaning that husband and wife should be true to their vows of their relationship that only death would separate them.
Sexual intimacy or sexual intercourse is enjoyed within the context of marriage between husband and wife and this is not only a biological need but deeper affection making their union as “one flesh.”
Sexual intercourse outside marriage of suitors or not their wives or husbands is condemned by God.
Therefore, pre-marital sex or fornication and adultery are judged by God (Hebrews 13:4; Matthew 15:19) and even God hates divorce as well (Malachi 2:16).
Jesus Christ during His ministry contested against the religious leaders of Judaism for lowering the standard of marriage by adopting divorce as it was permitted in Moses’ time. He disputed them that it was not from the beginning that God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.
Therefore, a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh (Genesis1:27-28; 2:24). God authors the first marriage and ends the last marriage (Revelation 19:7).
In Genesis 2:18-24 God planned Adam for marriage: He formed Eve, He brought Eve to Adam, and set the terms and condition of their relationship.
This is still applicable today and this is not out of date.
Paul is laying down the tenet of choosing a wife or a husband in 2 Corinthians 6:14-16 not to be unequally yoke with unbeliever. In other words, a Christian should not marry a non-Christian.
He has used the word yoke which is being practiced in Israel that a farmer when he toils his parcel of land with two animals of the same size, strength and kind are yoked together to plow like a horse should be partnered with a horse and not with a donkey.
Because a non-believer is a slave of his sinful nature and Satan. So, there is no common ground that the Christian and non-Christian should live as a couple. If a Christian is insisting, he or she may end up in disaster.
