Beware of diabetes: Signs and symptoms

Republika

Diabetes is a serious problem that many people face all over the world. It involves having too much glucose, or sugar, in the blood. Chronic diabetes generally falls under either type 1 or type 2.

The symptoms that manifest are entirely dependent on just how high a person’s blood sugar is. Sometimes, the signs are so mild it’s easy to not realize they’re manifesting at all. Type 2 diabetes includes several warnings.

Blurry vision is a common symptom of an onset of diabetes. It stems from the excess sugar damaging the eyes’ tiny blood vessels, affecting a person’s clarity in seeing things. This should not be ignored because left untreated, it could cause a complete loss of sight.

A symptom generally found in women is yeast infections and itching. When sugar levels go up in the blood, they tend to spike in urine as well. This leads to yeast overgrowing especially within the genital area. Address this immediately as it can eventually involve burning sensations and soreness.

When the body’s cells don’t get enough glucose from the bloodstream, there’s only one logical reaction. A constant state of hunger. Even a full stomach will not be able to quench the hungry feeling diabetes can bring on.

Perpetually having to use the bathroom is another sign. That’s because the kidney is trying its best to remove the excess sugar through filtering. In turn, the need to urinate is much more urgent and frequent than usual. Hand-in-hand with that, of course, is being thirsty all the time.

Lethargy, or exhaustion, is another key sign. Not enough sugar in the body? There’s definitely not enough energy to do much of anything, then.

If you are experiencing one or more of these signs or symptoms, stay calm.

Contact a medical professional immediately so you can schedule a consultation. That way, you can determine whether you do have diabetes and what the next steps will be if so.
